10 of Chanel Iman's Best Event Looks from 2011

Chanel Iman's year has been jam packed with amazing events - from a Vertu launch in Milan to unveiling a $1 million gold bottle of a DKNY fragrance to the world. Chanel also attended the very memorable "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala which took place in May this year, dressed in a lace Dolce & Gabbana dress. She wowed us on the red carpet for the CFDA Fashion Awards in a sexy turquoise gown by Max Azria, and went classic in a Michael Kors red design for the 2nd Annual amfAR Inspiration Gala.  Her red carpet style oozes elegance and glamour, fused with plenty of sexiness - leg slits and high heels are a must when it comes to the red carpet for Chanel, while she likes to experiment with makeup and hairstyles to complete each look. Below are 10 of her best event looks this year.

Marc Jacobs and Ex-Fiance Holiday on the Beach in St. Barts

Marc Jacobs is currently unwinding in St.Barts after a long year. The designer was seen on the beach, relaxing alongside his ex-fiancé Lorenzo Martone despite rumors that he is dating a Brazilian pornstar which surfaced recently (read it here). Marc was joined on holiday by Rachel Zoe, who unfortunately has her luggage lost by the airline (packed full of Missoni and Tom Ford) on the way to the destination. Rachel brought along her husband Rodger and new baby Skyler. Marc and Lorenzo were spotted soaking up some rays on the beach while showing off their super toned bods in skimpy swimsuits and of course, there is the black Hermés bag that Marc felt made a fitting beach bag - looks like fun!

Although the late ’90s apparently saw the end of Gary Glitter‘s career, following his conviction for sexual offenses, there is no doubting that for a full 25 years before that tragic denouement, Glitter ranked among Britain’s best-loved performers of all time. The hits which catapulted him to fame in the early ’70s, the anthemic “Rock and Roll” of course, but also the likes of “I’m the Leader of the Gang,” “Do You Wanna Touch Me,” and “I Love You Love Me Love,” still have the capacity to stir an audience — as “Rock and Roll” itself proves, every time it airs at a major sporting event in the U.S. And, if it is at all oxymoronic that the King of British Glam should be responsible for one of the national anthems of American Football, then that is simply further testament of what made Gary glitter so brightly. Musically, visually, and emotionally, he transcended so many barriers that even categorizing him as a rock & roller seems somehow stingy. He was so much more than that.
Gary Glitter emerged on the U.K. scene in 1972, although he had been touring and recording for over a decade beforehand. Still in his mid-teens, the young Paul Gadd performed at the legendary 2 I’s Coffee Bar in London’s Soho district, moving onto the Laconda and the Safari clubs before his repertoire of rock & roll classics and sweetly executed ballads brought him to the attention of Robert Hartford Davis, a small-time movie producer looking to break into the music industry. He financed the teenager’s first recording session and landed him a deal with Decca, who released “Alone in the Night” in January, 1960, under the first of the multitude of pseudonyms which the singer would utilize through the remainder of the decade, Paul Raven.

Coverdale & Page – Coverdale & Page [Japan Blu-Spec CD] (2011)

This is reissue from Coverdale / Page featuring the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD format. After a planned collaboration with Robert Plant fell through in the early 1990s, Jimmy Page did the next best thing–he hooked up with ex-Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, who’s often compared to Plant vocally, for a single album, 1993′s Coverdale & Page.As you’d assume, the duo’s sound is similar to the mighty Led Zeppelin–bluesy heavy metal dripping with machismo. While many of the highlights are hard rock-based (“Shake My Tree,” “Waiting on You,” “Pride and Joy”), there are a few slow blues numbers that are just as strong (“Take Me For a Little While,” “Over Now”). Although Coverdale & Page caused quite a stir with Zep/classic rock fans worldwide, the duo only played a handful of live
dates together in Japan, and split up shortly thereafter when Plant finally agreed to re-join forces with Page (under the name Page/Plant).

Ken Vandermark Predella Group – Strade d’Acqua / Roads of Water (2011) FREE DOWNLOAD

Prolific composer    saxophonist Ken Vandermark‘s first soundtrack Project, Strade d’Acqua / Roads of Water, brings together his multiple interests and sound designs, creating a work for the film by Augusto Contento. It can exists as a standalone album, separate from the film, without commentary.Recorded in 2008, Vandermark’s Predella Group reunites trombonist Jeb Bishop—an original member of the Vandermark 5—with the leader, as well as his replacement, cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm . For this work, Vandermark arranges the sound in a sparse manner, perhaps to leave plenty of space for the visuals.Relying heavily on Vandermark’s new favorite drummer Tim Daisy—who plays a bit of marimba on “Sieve of the Soul”—the atmosphere is one of slowed tempos and space. In the gaps, Vandermark allows his players to fill in with breathy slurs and the occasional electronic flashes. Bassist Nate McBride‘s heavy opening to “Blue Over Green” carpets the unison horn lines that give way to seemingly casual single-note from guitarist Jeff Parker, taking flight before the track abruptly ends mid-flight—as does “Signal,” an open improvisation of horns, cast about and fuzzy electronics from Lonberg-Holm.

Since releasing its 2005 debut, This Was the Pace of My Heartbeat, Rune Grammofon’s In the Country has, in the softest, gentlest way possible, evolved its purview and sound world, establishing itself as a piano trio like no other. Through two more recordings, 2006′s Losing Stones, Collecting Bones and 2009′s more ambitiously expansive Whiteout, this young Norwegian trio has gradually shifted its angle without deserting its wide range of touchstones, from Oliver Messiaen’s sonic density and Morton Feldman’s ability to linger quietly in the subconscious, to the unfettered but focused freedom of groups led by pianist Paul Bley—directly, and via pianist Keith Jarrett‘s heralded American Quartet—and a similar propensity for medium tempos as fellow Norwegian, pianist Tord Gustavsen.

Oz Noy – Twisted Blues Volume 1 (2011) FREE DOWNLOAD

That guitarist Oz Noy was voted “Best Newcomer” by Guitar Player Magazine in 2008 underlines how curiously under the radar he seems to fly. By then, Noy had already played with New York’s finest musicians in the dozen preceding years since arriving from Israel, and had cut three impressive CDs as leader. His fourth release, Schizophrenic (Magnitude Records, 2009) portrayed a multiple musical personality, one embracing jazz, rock, blues and funk in a potent, bewitching cocktail, veering this way and—when you least expect it—that. Noy raises his own bar a notch here, leaning more overtly towards the blues, though a twisted blues which smokes and burns from gnarly yet incendiary fuel gathered from bebop, groove-based rock, and the sophisticated harmonics of modern jazz.
